Hotel Tricks
A nice way to cool off from the Omani heat is by using the superb rooftop swimming pool of the hotel. Most times it's quiet and affords a great private moment to relax and cool off which is an excellent amenity for a hotel at this price point. Perfect spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
Drive just 10 minutes from the hotel and you will find one of Oman’s greatest modern landmarks-the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. A top tip: go in the morning (it closes to non-Muslims in the afternoon) and be prepared to dress very modestly. Long trousers for men and hair, arms, and legs covered for women. It is an absolutely breathtaking piece of architecture and a must-see.
For a great dining experience, take advantage of your location in the heart of Al Khuwair. While the hotel is surrounded by quick and casual options, a 5-minute walk will take you to the Turkish House Restaurant, a legendary local institution. Don't be fooled by its simple appearance; it serves some of the best and most affordable fresh seafood and Turkish grills in all of Muscat. It's an authentic and delicious experience you can't miss.
Finally, while the hotel is in a new part of town, a short 15-20 minute cab ride will take you to the old heart of Muscat: the Mutrah Souq and the Corniche. Here’s a great tip for visiting; go in the late afternoon. You can waft through the magical, labyrinthine souq shopping for frankincense and souvenirs, and then have a beautiful sunset walk along the corniche looking at the traditional dhow boats and the illuminated Al Alam Palace in the distance.
